Avena Botanicals is a thriving small business in midcoast Maine where each person working within its rhythm plays an integral role in the co-creation process of providing high quality handmade herbal products from seed to bottle.

We are an herbal apothecary that has offered a variety of hand-crafted herbal remedies for the past 29 years and most of our products are made with herbs grown and hand-harvested from our own biodynamic, organic gardens in Rockport, Maine. In providing high quality herbal remedies created from seed to bottle by hand, we work to balance strong ideals about the creation of medicine with good business practice. We strive to create a happy, healthy workplace for all beings.

This administrative position works closely with the General Manager and Customer Service to complete routine tasks as well as long term projects and development. Routine tasks include website maintenance, creative and interesting facebook and blog posting, providing back-up customer service assistance, maintaining records, coordinating meetings and events and answering correspondence. Long term projects include planning and implementing marketing and product development strategies as well as coordinating fulfillment of general facilities maintenance.

We are looking for someone with great communication skills, positivity, creativity, motivation, attention to detail, collaboration skills and flexibility. The right candidate must have good computer skills, especially with Quick Books, Excel and Word Press. We are looking for at least one year of administrative experience, though multiple years would be preferred and marketing or design experience is a must! We hope that you’ll have a strong commitment to wellness and a belief in the effectiveness and importance of traditional plant medicines. Some herbal experience would be great, but an openness and interest is most important. Independent judgment is needed to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload and to recommend changes in practices or procedures.
