Job description

The LongHouse Food Scholars Program is a four-week, residential intensive dedicated to studying each aspect of food media. There will be two residential sessions in 2014; these sessions will take place during the months of July and August, each hosting a group of selected scholars. During this time, scholars will become conversant in writing, photography, videography, and audio recordings.  

Residential Director candidates should be well-versed in food studies, be established as a writer, and posses a working knowledge of at least one additional area of media, such as: food blogging and web content creation, photography, videography, or recording and editing audio interviews. Teaching experience, as well as experience working in a collaborative environment, are also important.  

This position includes establishing student schedules, teaching one class per week, working one-on-one with scholars to edit their weekly blog posts and longer research assignments, as well as tracking scholars’ progress and individual needs. Some evening mentoring is also required.

Further responsibilities of the Residential Director include curriculum development and student application analysis. These duties will begin at the commencement of hire. Note: preparation will not exceed 35 hrs and will be a time commitment of approximately two hours per week.

Compensation includes meals, as well as room and board. Salary is modeled on adjunct professor rates and is commensurate with experience.
