Pasanella & Son, Vintners, a medium-sized wine shop in Lower Manhattan and one of Food & Wine’s “Top 10 NYC Stores”, is looking for a full-time wine director/manager to help expand our business in the fastest growing neighborhood in NYC. In addition to being experienced, knowledgeable about wine & food and passionate, the ideal candidate:

displays excellent organizational skills
There are many transactions (both buying and selling) so attention to detail and ability to follow up are crucial.

is as comfortable schlepping a case as strategizing about marketing
A typical day may involve talking to the press one minute and ordering office supplies the next. The ideal candidate is as comfortable with grunt as well as glamour.

enjoys teaching
The perfect person is as comfortable answering questions for the newbie wine customer as chatting with a collector, or leading a class and talking in front of a television camera.

has business savvy
We do not want to become an empire. But we do want to expand our wholesale distribution of our very popular and well-received Pasanella wines. We would also consider opening a few additional locations in the next few years. This person must also be well-versed in retail.

Our highly-edited selection with an emphasis on smaller, sustainably-produced and just-about-to-be-discovered producers is the basis of our reputation. We need someone who is equally committed to ferreting out the best and winnowing it down to a unique & balanced selection.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day store management including staffing, supplies, inventory, website, store presentation & customer service
  
• Purchasing & maintenance of a balanced product portfolio based on margin, price, volume and, of course, taste!
  
• Coordination in-store consumer tastings and leading of educational programs
  
• Media appearances as required
  

Requirements

• At least four years retail, wholesale and/or hospitality experience.
  
• Significant wine & spirits knowledge, particularly in small-production, sustainably-produced wines. Sommelier certification is a plus.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  
• Computer and social media savvy.
