Job description

The Ron Finley Project seeks a passionate, committed Project Manager/Executive Assistant to support Ron Finley’s work. Ron is preparing to build a permanent headquarters for urban gardening and community building in South Central. HQ will serve as a hub for community, culture, education and, most importantly, food. HQ community members of all ages will learn about gardening and healthy eating. Fresh, healthy food choices will be provided to the community and the surrounding lot will host a lush garden of fresh fruits and vegetables where students can come to get their hands dirty and dig in. The position of Project Manager/Executive Assistant requires a special individual who is excited to develop and cultivate Ron Finley’s work in South LA, willing to work hard to build the Ron Finley project from the ground up, and ready to grow with this project.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Provide administrative support by screening calls and emails, making appointments and maintaining calendar, workload preparation and reporting, composing, typing and editing correspondence, attending meetings, and independently following up on all pending matters relating to Ron’s work.
  • Handle all incoming emails, and carefully curate which opportunities are pursued.
  • Research and development for grant applications.
  • Write, edit and manage the bi-monthly newsletter.
  • Create, plan, program, and conduct outreach for all dig-ins and events.
  • Develop and oversee RonFinley.com including content creation, curation, and aggregation, as well as external communications and marketing.
  • Develop and manage social media networks, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and experience:
  • One or more years of experience in a similar capacity with a nonprofit or social enterprise.
  • Administrative office skills and computer proficiency.
  • Fundraising and event planning experience.
  • Experience with grantwriting and research.
  • Experience working on partnership-based and team-based projects and with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Skills in social media including content creation, maintenance, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with urban farming, nutrition, and/or health, with an in-depth knowledge of South Los Angeles and community organizing strongly preferred.
  • B.A. or B.S. required.

Technology and software:
  • Word-processing and spreadsheet skills (MS Word and Excel); proficiency communicating via e-mail.
  • Comfort using web-based communication tools such as Google docs and MailChimp is preferred.
