Job description

The Bread Project's mission is to empower individuals with limited resources on their path to self-sufficiency through skills instruction, on-the-job training in its social enterprises, and assistance with establishing a career in the food industry.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Programs will provide leadership, management, advocacy and support to Bread Project prospective participants, trainees and graduates to produce program results, including training retention and employment outcomes. He/she will report to and support the Executive Director in all areas of program development, implementation and evaluation. In addition, he/she will work closely with the Director of Bakery Operations and Berkeley Adult School Culinary Instructors to administer the training and maintain program policies. Lastly, he/she will work with the development team to develop compelling funding proposals and report program outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the execution of all programmatic activities to meet overall program goals for fiscal year

  • Oversight over technical skills instruction
  • Job readiness instruction: softs skills/emotional intelligence
  • Training administration: trainee records, discipline, standards Job development: search, placement and retention
  • Follow up and graduate engagement
  • Data collection: analysis and reporting
  • Program evaluation and improvement: training targets and outcomes.
  • Responsible for consistency, quality, accountability and standards of excellence in all programs and services – both trainee support and education.
  • This includes providing training for staff and developing procedures, models and comprehensive frameworks of delivery.
  • Manage, supervise and direct staff (core and volunteer) in day-to-day program implementation.
  • Contribute to grant reports entailing program narrative and statistical data.
  • Advocate and support trainees from intake to completion ensuring their success in the program as well as in employment.
  • Collaborate and communicate successfully with stakeholders, such as referral partners, grant partners, volunteers, and employers to gain community support for the program, enhance existing programs and maintain strong and productive intra-organizational relationships.
  • Develop sustainable, high-impact programs that are linked to opportunities for funding.
  • Manage special projects and other initiatives designed to enhance and support existing programs.
  • Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Contribute to the long term strategic planning for the programs and organization.
  • Assist with recruitment strategies to expand the number of volunteers to support the program.
  • Recruit interview and select well-qualified program staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree in human services or closely related field preferred
  • Ability to work with and manage diverse populations and set and maintain clear boundaries
  • Five years experience in recruiting, training and supervising staff
  • Direct experience in program management and evaluation; experience managing workforce development programs preferred
  • Strong teaching and/or group facilitation experience
  • Excellent management skills, including self organization and project management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Capable of producing high quality work on a day-to-day basis while meeting deadlines
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and flexibility in handling multiple projects or shifts in assignments Knowledge of Bay Area social services agencies and food businesses
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project), Windows operating system, and Salesforce;
  • Proficient in Adobe Suite preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Creative in approaches to common program shortfalls, but strategic in their implementation
  • Available to work flexible hours – including weekends and evening work as needed
