START DATE: Negotiable

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Participate in the development of a new Master of Science program in Food Systems and Society; teach required and elective courses; organize on-site intensive courses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
  • Perform academic responsibilities for the Food Systems and Society department, including developing curriculum, student advising, and teaching. Position includes on-load teaching of 24 credit hours per academic year (note: MU is a four quarter institution).
  • Develop regular courses and short courses; organize and oversee on-site intensive courses with students and faculty.
  • Coordinate and oversee student projects and theses, and liaise with organizations.
  • Develop and maintain connections to the interdisciplinary scholarly and practitioner communities engaged in food systems and society.
  • Participate in outreach, events, and fundraising.
  • Provide university service by attending and participating on the University Faculty Council and other university task forces and committees.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Ph.D. in a related discipline.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarship. Experience with working with graduate students strongly preferred.
  • Experience with applied research and education projects.
  • Minimum two years teaching experience in higher education.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Experience in community engagement on food systems.
  • Experience in teaching courses related to food issues as well as student advising.
  • Experience in online, hybrid pedagogy preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Travel as needed for outreach, fundraising, on-site intensive courses, and presenting at conferences.
