Author and sustainable food advocate and co-founder of the
Small Planet Institute and
Small Planet Fund, Anna Lappé, is seeking a Programs Manager for the Real Food Media Project to work out at our office in Downtown Oakland, CA. (Lappé’s Small Planet Institute and Real Food Media Project also has offices in Cambridge, MA and a presence in New York City).
Hours and Compensation: 30 to 40 hours a week. Compensation based on experience. This position is a contract position through Corporate Accountability International, which houses the Real Food Media Project.

The Real Food Media Project is a partnership of dozens of organizations working in food systems change. This collaborative initiative is directed by Anna Lappé and is run out of Corporate Accountability International (CAI). Our first initiative, Food MythBusters, is spreading the real story of our food with creative movies, an online action center, and educational programming including webinars, grassroots events, and more. We are seeking a candidate who shares our core mission – to help reveal the root causes of hunger and poverty and empower people to see the ways that they can be part of systemic change. We do this work through media, public speaking and education, and small-scale project funding.
Areas of Work:
· Management: Assist Project Director, Corporate Accountability International, and Project partners to track timeline, goals, and cash flow. Coordinate meetings, conference calls, and other communications, especially with Coalition members and other key partners.
· Development: Assist with grantwriting, tracking grants, and research fundraising opportunities. Manage all reporting and communicating with foundations and funders. Additional work may include managing a Kickstarter campaign or other creative financing ideas.
· Coordination with service providers: Assist with relationships with filmmaker team, creative team, and web designers.
· Administration: Supervise office management, filing, mailings, etc.
· Event management: Handle all speaking queries, event negotiation, and travel logistics, including preparing itineraries and doing advance research.
· Media: Provide communications assistant and coordinate with media requests and track all media about the Project.
· Editing/Writing: Assist with editing, reviewing, and copy editing articles, op-eds, blogs, and other written communication.
· Social media: Work with our Online Community Engagement manager to provide upkeep to www.foodmyths.org, www.TakeaBite.cc, www.smallplanetfund.org and www.smallplanet.org and coordinate Twitter, Facebook, and other social media presence for all areas of work.
Other areas of work include assistance with the Small Planet Fund and other related work, events, and activities of the Fund, Institute, and Anna Lappé.
Qualifications:
· Project management experience and experience juggling many tasks and diverse assignments a plus;
· Research experience in the area of sustainable agriculture, food systems a plus;
· Proven ability to manage details and complete assignments in an efficient and effective manner;
· Must be a great copyeditor and careful with commas!
· Experience with online media, including WordPress as well as social networking including Facebook and Twitter;
· Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
· Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team;
· Excellent interpersonal skills;
· Helpful but not required: experience in Final Cut/video editing, Photoshop/photo editing, and website coding;
· Must have own computer.
