General Manager for Sweet Roots NYC

  • Date Posted February 04, 2013
  • Location Brooklyn, NY
  • Category Business / Culinary
  • Job type Full-Time

Job description

At Sweet Roots NYC, we’re on a mission to make home cooking easy for busy New Yorkers. We believe that cooking at home, with local, organic ingredients, creates more than just a meal; that we are helping our clients create change. Change in our food system. Change in our health. Change in our relationships at home and within our communities.

As a company, we do this through our custom menu planning and weekly delivery service. We source, wash and cut farm fresh produce, pre-measure ingredients and deliver everything with simple, easy-to-follow recipes, so getting dinner on the table is a cinch.

Sweet Roots seeks a full-time GM to (1) oversee day-to-day operations, (2) improve internal efficiency and consistency, (3) manage procurement and inventory, (4) recruit, train and lead the SR operations team, and (5) work with the CEO to make sure that the operations are aligned with SR's values.

We work in a fast-paced start-up environment, so our ideal candidate is quick on his/her feet, enjoys a challenge and can identify opportunities for growth and improvement. We'd love to work with someone who is plugged in to the Brooklyn food movement, particularly the super rad growers, makers and distributors that call the borough home. Systems and processes are going to be the key to turning our operation into a well oiled machine, so the right person for the job will have some tricks up their sleeve and will have the analytic skills to observe and then implement new ways of doing things. Above all, we're looking for a people person that can motivate our operations team, develop relationships with purveyors and provide excellent customer service when necessary.

DUTIES
  • Oversee daily operations, with a focus on system development and improvement
  • Ensure that operational activities occur within the context of the SR budget and/or in consultation with the CEO

  • Implement processes for ensuring that Dept. of Agriculture health and safety standards are met
  • Manage inventory of food, packaging and supplies; liaising with vendors, placing orders and receiving deliveries
  • Assist with cost management through strategic purchasing, waste reduction and increased internal efficiency
  • Analyze and develop solutions for operational barriers to business growth
  • Work closely with CEO to implement the vision for SR
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years kitchen management experience; prior employment on the line and procurement experience preferred
  • Capacity to identify a variety of produce, meat and fish products and guide the staff in preparation
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Track record of problem solving skills in the business setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ease working with employees, vendors, clients and other stakeholders
