Job description
Popular Louisiana-based blogger and cookbook author is looking for two interns to assist with social media and editorial content in the publication, maintenance, and marketing of their website. Each intern will specialize in one of the two areas:1.) Marketing and PR– promotion, exposure, and networking. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating Interviews and Appearances
- Assisting in Release Party for Upcoming Book (such as organizing and meeting with event sponsors)
- Promoting through Online Marketing & Media: Social Media such as: Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, delish, Reddit, StumbleUpon, and others
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO), YouTube, Google Rich Snippets, WordPress, and other forms of online marketing and outreach
- Linking and creating flow between our main website and social networks
2.) Editorial – writing, editing, and publishing. Responsibilities include:
- Editing and updating existing website content (articles, recipes, and pages),
- Learning the basics of photo editing for print and digital media as well as website front-ends and back-ends,
- Submitting and revising existing content to magazines, newspapers, and online resources, and
- Composing weekly newsletter content
In addition to hands-on experience, applicants should possess the following qualities for this internship:
- Communication Skills: clear writing, speaking, and communication skills.
- Dedication: work 5 hours a week for up to six months, meet deadlines, and follow through with projects.
- Knowledge of Louisiana: possess a basic understanding of and appreciation for Louisiana culture and food.
- Enthusiasm and Interest in Social Media or Editing: interested in working with online media and marketing, public relations, and/or print and digital writing.
- (Some) Knowledge of Food and Cooking: possess some knowledge of cooking and food.
This is an incredible opportunity to work simultaneously in Internet and print media as well as learn how the industries of food, print, online publishing, and marketing work. Interns will have the opportunity to hone their digital marketing, editorial, and/or writing skills through active engagement in our website. Interns will also gain great contacts inside local publishing and media industries and receive thoughtful, personalized recommendation letters for their work.
The two ideal applicants will be able to work for fives hours weekly alongside the website’s Chief Executive Officer and writer. Hours are flexible and part-time, but must be approved during appropriate business hours.
This position is an unpaid internship, so we are looking for those interested in building their resumes and gaining real-world experience.
