Job description

EXECUTIVE COORDINATOR

ASSISTANT TO CURT ELLIS

Organization

FoodCorps is a fast-growing national nonprofit that provides a scalable response to the epidemic of childhood obesity and a means for training a new generation of leaders in the fields of food, education and health.

Currently supporting a class of 80 service members and 12 second-year FoodCorps Fellows, FoodCorps recruits emerging leaders for a year of service giving vulnerable children knowledge of, engagement with, and access to healthy food. Working under the direction of high-impact local partners, our teams teach kids what healthy food is in the classroom, give them hands on engagement with how it grows in school gardens, and enable them to eat it every day in school cafeterias that now source food from local farms. The efforts of FoodCorps service members transform school food environments into oases of health, opportunity and joy.

FoodCorps is led by co-founder and Executive Director Curt Ellis and a young team of social entrepreneurs. A nationally known thought-leader in film, food and national service, Ellis co-created the documentary King Corn and the mobile garden project Truck Farm, then began working with a small team to develop and launch FoodCorps. As the organization’s chief executive, Ellis oversees our 15-person staff, $4 million annual budget, and many of the relationships critical to our team’s shared success. His work has been recognized with Heinz and Peabody Awards and ongoing invitations to speak on college campuses or appear in the national media.
