INTERNSHIP Ever Laughter Farm
October 04, 2012
Hillsborough, NC
Agriculture
Internship/Apprentice
General Description:
Ever Laughter Farm is a small farm in its fourth year of production. Our main production focus is growing a wide variety of vegetables free of chemical sprays and fertilizers. This year we are expanding our growing area to a total of about 3 acres. We also raise pigs and have a small flock of laying chickens. We use our greenhouse to grow plant starts for the farm and some for market.

We sell at market in Chapel Hill year-round, at market in Durham during the summer, and we sell some to local restaurants.

Internship Details:
Our interns work alongside the farmers in all farm work. Major activities this fall include preparing beds for over-wintering, planting garlic, mulching, weeding, harvesting, washing, and packing. Interns are asked to help at and possibly run a market stand.

Other farm work includes animal chores (feeding, egg collecting). We are also constructing a tractor shed this fall.

Skills Desired:
Experience is not necessary but is welcome! Our ideal interns are enthusiastic about growing food, patient with repetitive tasks yet able to keep pace in a time-sensitive environment, and keep a positive attitude.

Educational Opportunities:
In addition to learning about how and why we farm the way we do there will be opportunities to visit other farms. There is a great network of experienced and just-beginning farmers in the area and education is easy to come by.

Stipend:
A monthly stipend starting at $400 will be provided.

Housing:
The intern will be housed in an airstream camper and will have access to the farmhouse.

Meals:
Fresh veggies and eggs and groceries are provided. We like to cook and share meals when our schedules allow.
