Love Apple Farms in Santa Cruz, California, is seeking a new Garden Manager.

We currently have a Garden Manager that will remain with us until October of 2012 and that person will train their replacement. The candidate will start out as a farm apprentice, working alongside our current apprentice crew, and will receive special instruction to grow into the paid-position of Garden Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES & OVERVIEW

The Garden Manager at Love Apple Farms coordinates all of the planting beds (300 different varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs and edible flowers), manages our crew of 8 apprentices (along with the help of our farm owners), is the liaison between our restaurant account and the farm, and manages twice weekly harvests of crops that are then delivered to the restaurant. We do not have a CSA.

Love Apple Farms is also a teaching institution, welcoming hundreds of day-students in classes such as Summer Vegetable Gardening, Tomato Masters, Container Vegetable Gardening, BeeKeeping, ChickenKeeping, Canning and Preserving, Jam Making, Bread Making, Irrigation, Gopher Trapping, etc. etc.

COMPENSATION

Live on the farm in private shared cottage, with rent, board, utilities, paid for by farm: $20,000 for first year, $30,000 second year. Or not live on the farm: $30,000 first year, $40,000 second year. 

This is a full-time, year-round position.  Apprentices are compensated with meals and lodging and a stipend of $250 per month. The candidate will have apprentice status until October 1, when the current Garden Manager leaves.
