Everybody Eats is looking for a board member to join a delicious and innovative venture as Team Everybody Eats moves to open a pay-what-you-can café in Washington, DC. This is a two year (renewable), voluntary Board of Directors position.

Everybody Eats is a community café whose mission is to help increase food security in the District of Columbia. Our emphasis is on fresh, local produce, unprocessed ingredients and delicious meals, in a setting where patrons become more knowledgeable and empowered about the importance of good food for everyone in the community.

Everybody Eats will provide access to good food for all. We envision the creation of an inclusive, caring community, rich in positive social capital, within which everyone has currency that matters. Each patron is asked to give back something meaningful to the effective and sustainable functioning of the café, be it time, talent, or money. At such a community table, everybody can eat.

Through its range of healthy eating choices, Everybody Eats provides the dietary opportunity to improve health and wellness. Through intentionally preparing food and eating it together, there is the opportunity for understanding across incomes and socioeconomic status, political perspectives, life experiences, cultures and belief systems.

Key Qualifications and Skills - strong candidates will exhibit proficiency and/or ability in the following areas:

● Non-profit board experience; high-level involvement in a mission-driven organization;

● Able to make a commitment of priority, time (one board meeting per month plus additional individual responsibilities) and enthusiastic energy to the Everybody Eats project;

● Demonstrated leadership and a track record of achieving desired outcomes in your area of expertise;

● Experience cultivating and developing relationships with investors and donors;

● We are particularly interested in members with legal, marketing and media, fundraising and/or investor-relations skills and a commitment to prioritize the project;

● Knowledge of the DC community, food and food systems, and/or a wide network of professional contacts is desired.
