Job description

Farmstead, a nationally-recognized cheese shop located in Providence’s historic East Side neighborhood, is looking for a food-lover who lives to provide above-and-beyond customer service to join our small but dedicated team of full-time cheesemongers. The ideal candidate will have: 

--the aforementioned customer service skills, i.e., the innate desire to have each of our guests leave the shop happier and more knowledgeable about their purchases than when they arrived; the ability to read people and adjust service accordingly; the skill to handle challenging guests and situations with grace and professionalism.

--the aforementioned love of food. It’s ok if you don’t yet know all there is to know about the world of cheese - we can teach you that. What is important is that you naturally love food: talking about it how it’s made, how it’s served, and getting our guests as excited about it as you are.

--a strong work ethic. Farmstead is a team-based, all-hands-on-deck shop. There’s always work to be done, and we expect all of our team members to have the drive and focus to get it done right.

--experience in the retail and/or food worlds. Salesmanship is a skill, and prior practice of it is ideal, though not critical, particularly if your previous work experience is related.

--the ability to lift 50 lbs. What can we say. Some cheese is heavy.

Evening and weekend hours are required. Compensation is based on experience, and a benefits package is offered after 6 months of employment.
