I DON'T KNOW.
What makes us feel more vulnerable than answering a question with those three words: I don't know? Or maybe it makes you feel worse when you're asking the question and you receive that answer from someone else. Either way, it's uncomfortable at best, and at worst it makes you feel like your stomach is a very large pit made of stone.
This is especially true when the question is one that holds a lot of weight or concerns major life planning: What are you going to do after graduation? What are you majoring in? What will you do after you retire? Can you make a living that way? What if you quit your job to follow your passion, and it doesn't work out?
There's been a lot of uncertainty around GFJ lately, as we launched a new requirement for employers to state a compensation range on all job posts, and as we anticipate the roll-out of a brand new home page redesign. When will it be ready, you ask? We don't know. But we do find a great deal of inspiration in the fact that when nothing is certain, anything is possible.
Today, instead of worrying about the lack of answers to life's bigger questions, we'd like you to consider what would happen if the answers didn't matter. What would you do or say if you weren't trying to avoid the dreaded 'I Don't Know'?
Cheers,
Taylor & Dorothy
