A FEW WEEKS AGO . . .
we touched a nerve. We provided coverage on a lack of meaningful connection embodied by unanswered email correspondence. We noted that despite ever increasing technological modes of communication, many of us feel more isolated and ignored than ever.
And while we framed the issue largely from the perspective of job seekers who feel ignored by job posters, we know that it takes two to tango - we heard an overwhelming response from people on both sides of the equation, some of whom were baffled by our audacity not to acknowledge the challenges present to their respective group.
All we can say is: we hear you loud and clear.
For the job posters out there that deal with applicants not following directions, no-show interviewees, or employees that quit on the spot - we hear you. We know that being an employer, especially a good one, can feel like a thankless job at times. It's easy for employees to overlook the lengths that you go to in keeping your operations up and running.
And to the job seekers that have spent hours crafting resumes, cover letters, and job applications only to hear nothing back, or to have been on dozens of interviews only to be passed up time and time again, or to have been undervalued and /or abused in the workplace - we understand why you feel frustrated and / or confused.
At the end of the day, there are people that are 'doing it right' on both sides of the fence. Our aim is to share the experiences, expertise, and insight of those that are committed to making a positive cultural shift.
So this week we are hoping to reward those that have something positive to contribute. We've got two ticket giveaways:
FOOD + ENTERPRISE SUMMIT // 1 TICKET a $350 value
April 8th - April 9th
Brooklyn, NY
Catalyzes connections between entrepreneurs and investors to finance a better local food system. Perfect for those interested in starting / running their own food business or understanding the intersection of food and finance.
NATIONAL YOUNG FARMERS COALITION 'GOOD DIRT'
DOCUMENTARY THEATRE + AFTERPARTY TO BENEFIT YOUNG FARMERS // 10 TICKETS a value of $250 each
April 10th 4 PM show // 6 PM afterparty
Brooklyn Arts Museum
Inspired by the farmers that they met near their home in the Hudson Valley, writer Jeremy Davidson and director Mary Stuart Masterson weaved a series of in-depth interviews with six farm families into a performance piece about the struggles and triumphs of farm life. Perfect for folks interested in the intersection of agriculture and art.

Have you seen the new Post a Job page? Even if you aren't a job poster, you might enjoy checking out the new features that are helping to ensure better quality, more targeted job posts.
The changes include separate forms for posting internships and restaurant jobs - two types of positions that we get the most questions about from employers. As you fill out the job forms, you'll see tool tips pop up on the right side with helpful hints. We also included tags to improve the job searching experience, which you'll notice at the bottom of any job post that includes them - simply click on them for a shortcut to similar jobs. And speaking of viewing jobs, you can now see all the current jobs from any one employer by following the blue link to the right of the company name. Click here for an example.
Change can be hard. If you have any comments or feedback,
please chime in.
our job search engine is a work in progress. do you have a recommendation? constructive criticism? or have you noticed a glitch? let us know. we're improving every day.
