THERE ARE FEW THINGS AS SOOTHING . . .
as listening to the repetitive sound of the waves. They come in and go out. Whether ocean waves crashing on sandy beaches, or the lull of little waves on the lake, it's a reminder that no matter what we do there are forces at work that are well beyond our control. There is a web of complex activity that pre-dates our own accomplishments and remains constant.
Whenever it seems like the craziness of the world is tipping the scales, we stop and listen for these sounds: the waves crashing, the birds chirping, the wind rustling through the leaves on the trees. When you stop to listen, you hear the hum of activity outside of yourself. You realize that the world is so much bigger than you. That you are just one tiny piece of the puzzle - seemingly insignificant by comparison, and yet the picture won't come together completely without you and your contributions.
As summer begins, we wish you a happy season. It always seems to pass in an instant while you bounce between graduation parties, weddings and barbecues, but take some time to listen to the sounds around you, and remember what matters most in your world.
