It sounds so simple - but sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to execute successfully. We were having a conversation this weekend with a gentleman who was interested in a particular field. He asked, 'Do you have any advice on how I can break into the field?' As a matter of fact, we did. And the heart of it was something universal:
- show up
- show an interest
- do the work
- do it well
It's that easy, and it's that hard. His reply after these 'secrets' were revealed: 'You know, that is all rather simple and obvious. I just need to do it'.
So what's the problem? We find that in almost all cases, one simply needs to find a place to start. When there is no set road map, how do you know where to go? And when there is no wind, how do you start to row?
You may have noticed that over the years we've been developing the Education section of our site. (We hope) a recent design overhaul makes it easier and more pleasant to use than ever. It's meant to spark ideas and introduce you to resources that you may not have heard of otherwise. (Psssst, if you think there is something missing from the list don't hesitate to let us know).
CONNECT WITH AN ALUM
But we want to take it one step further. For the educational programs on the list, we are developing a new feature where you can connect with an alum - to correspond with a real, live human about their experience, and (hopefully) give you a clearer understanding of whether a particular program is right for you.

LOCATION
We're also working on a new mapping feature that will allow you to see where other GFJ users are located around the world. It's our intent to provide more context, inspiration, and maybe even motivate you to get to know your neighbors better. Worried about privacy? Rest assured that the data will be displayed anonymously.
So how can you help? We recently implemented a survey among current and new users, which included a location field. If you feel uncomfortable completing the entire survey (which includes fields for gender, birth date, etc.) consider simply sharing your city/state/country. Having accurate locations for our current users will help us turn this map from a dream into a reality. To fill out your location, log in and click on My Account. The survey is located under Account Info.
