While we have plenty of items on our Good Food Jobs agenda this week, mother nature occasionally puts forth plans different than what we had anticipated. And when it happens, we can not simply feign business as usual.
Good Food Jobs is more than a business. We consider it a community, and in many ways, a family. Our hearts are heavy this week as we share the loss of a close member of our family: Dorothy's mom passed away on Sunday morning.
In Dorothy's words . . .
Mom passed away quietly, in what seems like an instant, around 6:30am.
Although my mom failed me by leaving us before we were ready, here are the ways in which she triumphed:
- She taught me about feminism. How to be a woman who laughs loudly.
- She taught me to make everything from scratch - clothing, jewelry, party piƱatas... But most importantly, everything that came out of the kitchen: a loaf of daily bread, pounds of steaming hot apple sauce, fresh cheese breaking open as you unwind the cloth. She taught me how to relish a meal, standing over the pot at the stove, rubbing her hands together in anticipation.
- She taught me how you should be taken care of when you are sick. She would give us a little bell to ring if we needed anything, and ice cream was always on the menu.

We all owe Fran Williams a great debt of gratitude. Without her, there would be no Dorothy. And without Dor the world would be filled with much less loud laughter, far fewer fresh meals, and most certainly, no Good Food Jobs. We hope to honor her by continually living by and sharing her triumphs.
We make mention of learning from each other all of the time, but it seems more pertinent today than ever. If you are lucky enough to still have your Mom around (or any person that plays a maternal role in your life), let them know how much you appreciate what they've taught you. And if they are no longer with us, be sure to share their legacy with others. Life can extend so far beyond our physical years on Earth.
This one's for you, Fran.
With honest love and deep gratitude,
Taylor & Dorothy
