YOU KNOW THAT WE LOVE FOOD RITUALS . . .
and among our favorite is Sunday dinner. When I lived in NYC and first started seeing my significant other many many moons ago, his parents would come into the city every weekend to host a Sunday dinner. It was an informal affair - and you never knew exactly how many people would show up (many friends, co-workers, dates, out of town visitors, relatives - connected mostly to their three 20-something sons). It could be anywhere from 8 - 18 people and somehow they were always at the ready. In a world where we had scarcely overlapping schedules it was the one time in the week when everyone would meet up, and it was such a special treat. You could count on good food, good company, and good times.
It makes me excited to dive into Sam Sifton's new cookbook See You on Sunday, which centers around the idea that food does not have to be fancy or expensive - the most important thing is to take the time to gather.
Do you have any favorite meals that you make for a crowd?
