REAL PEOPLE . . .
Since we started GFJ, we've thought a lot about this concept of 'real people'. On the one hand, our job is based on technology that can easily keep us anonymous from one another. Alone in front of our screens, it's easy to feel like we are writing this weekly letter into a void, or to wonder if the jobs posted each day fall on deaf ears (or worse - no ears).
Every time someone chimes in via email (for example, with a suggestion for our weekly tidbits - see below for some user-generated inspiration) or we meet someone in person who exclaims over gigs they've found through Good Food Jobs, it grounds us.
We are all real people - no matter how we reach one another.
On the flip side, Taylor helps run another small business - Suarez Family Brewery, in New York's Hudson Valley - that is based around in-person customer service and interaction. Even so, the goal at SFB (yes, we love our acronyms) is for every person who works there to be a 'real person' - including its founders.
Everyone has benchmarks against which they compare themselves to others and see shortcomings (i.e. well that person is a 'real writer', or that person has a 'real job', that is how 'real people' spend their weekends, etc.) So much time is spent idealizing what other people's lives look like, and we can all forget to come down to earth.
Here's to respecting the fact that we're all 'real people' and we're all in it together.

tidbits...
what we’re reading / listening to / watching / noticing / thinking about / captivated by this Tuesday…
How to take summers off and still get promoted.
A follow-up to our Italian Grandmother pesto link last week, as written in by an American Grandmother: 'I use sunflower seeds instead of pine nuts. Who can afford pine nuts in volume? Also, pine nuts give a silky rich texture. Sunflower seeds contribute some crunch and an earthy flavor.'
The story of one real person and their very real fear.
got a tidbit? drop it here for us, and you just might see it in next week's newsletter.
