OUR GREATEST GLORY IS NOT IN NEVER FAILING . . .
but raising every time we fall.
We live in a world where there are no absolutes. As just one small example, last week's newsletter incited response from across the spectrum - from outrage at us voicing our personal, individual concerns, to kudos for attempting to capture an inclusive rather than divisive tone, to the feeling that our coverage did not do enough to acknowledge the hardships of those individuals and groups most adversely affected by the election.
But by now - after 333 editions of this newsletter - we know that our words will not soothe each and every one of our 56,000 subscribers each and every time. And we would not want them to. While we seek comfort in reflection and connection, we also learn from each interaction - even the hard ones, even the harsh ones.
Here are some of the major points that re-surfaced:
- We, as we mentioned last week, occupy a very fortunate space - one where we personally are not overtly threatened by the political changes. Let us not forget there are others who are not so fortunate.
- We do not have the answers. But we are certain that progress lies in actions more than words.
- Good Food Jobs is much more than a job search engine - it is a community. Food is part of the shared human experience. We hope that you will all find a way to engage in meaningful dialogue and take appropriate action in the company of others - particularly over a meal or while sharing a beverage.
We've used November as a time of reflection, but next week we'll shift our energy to action.
In the meantime if you're looking for a small way to practice taking action - in a food-related way - you might consider answering this question: What and how do you eat when you're alone and no one is watching? Your answer is meaningful to Sara Curtis, creator of the new podcast, Today's Special. She has created a platform to highlight the voices in the food industry that aren't usually heard on the radio, and you can lend your voice at http://sarabrookecurtis.com/todays-special/, or email your voice recording to todayspecialshow@gmail.com. The deadline to contribute is December 1st.
And last, but not least. if the onset of the holiday season is causing a sense of overwhelm and/or imbalance, consider joining our GFJ Holiday Refresh. Sign up to take the journey with us.
With gratitude,
Taylor & Dorothy
