ONCE WE ACCEPT OUR LIMITS . . . we go beyond them.
Sometimes we fall prey to the 'we can do it ALL' disease. Do the work and have the fun, make the funds and share the wealth, work hard and play hard, be there for everyone all the time.
Inevitably, when we can't actually do it ALL, we end up feeling disappointed - in ourselves and in the accompanying FOMO (fear of missing out).
It's getting easier as we grow older. We've begun to accept that even though we wish we could do it all, we know that we can't. There will never be enough time in the day to be with all of the people that we love as often as we'd like to, to learn all of things that we have an interest in, to read all of the books on our list, to attend every gathering.
And as we accept our limits, we discover a beautiful treasure, hidden somewhere in the cracks between disappointment and FOMO: we can go beyond them. Even as we feel the momentary twinge of sadness and frustration that comes from not being able to do it all, our eyes open to what is right in front of us - the hours and the days of doing things that we value with people that we appreciate. We get somewhere that we might never have gotten, if we'd allowed ourselves to stay stuck back there in the mud. Once you've freed yourself, who knows what you might accomplish next.
Cheers,
Taylor & Dorothy

You might have noticed an update to our main search bar, which just transformed into a slimmer, trimmer, more efficient version of itself. And speaking of facelifts, you'll also see that our collapsed header (for those not versed in web lingo, that's the bar thingy that you see at the top when you scroll down) is also trying on a new look. Next up: a lovelier, friendlier Newsletter Archive and a completely revamped Mobile Site.
our job search engine is a work in progress. do you have a recommendation? constructive criticism? or have you noticed a glitch? let us know. we're improving every day.

details / The UVM Food Systems Summit, organized in collaboration with the Vermont Law School Center for Agriculture and Food Systems, is an annual event drawing scholars, practitioners, and food systems leaders to engage in dialogue on the pressing food systems issues facing our world. This year's topic is the Right to Food: Power, Policy and Politics in the 21st Century. We have our work cut out for us in answering the question of providing good food to all. At GFJ, the question that swirls around in our heads so often is related less to the value of food itself, and more to the value of labor. So for this contest we want to break it down to one smaller, simpler question: drawing from personal experience, what is the most valuable work that you've ever done, and how were you compensated?
prize / The winner will receive a free registration (worth $125) to this years UVM Food Systems Summit in Burlington, VT on June 16th & 17th.
deadline / Please submit your answer to our question, in three sentences or less, to contest@goodfoodjobs.com by noon EST on Friday, May 22nd.
We look forward to sharing the winning submission in our newsletter on Tuesday, May 26th!
