WE LIKE GETTING THINGS DONE.
And at this time of the year, it seems harder and harder to do so. 'The holidays' add a whole new level of activity - increased travel, gatherings, cold and flu germs, and an ever-lengthening To Do list. Couple that with decreasing daylight hours and temperatures and the onslaught of correspondence with holiday gift guides // Black Friday // Small Business Saturday // Cyber Monday // Giving Tuesday and it can make your head spin (honestly we are getting agita just writing these words).
The overwhelm can easily muddy the very sentiment of the season. Instead of feeling the warmth and spirit of gratitude for having enough, it's easy to feel like no matter how productive we are or how much time or money we spend, it's just not good enough.
We look to the Words of Wisdom, which ring truer than ever for us today. It's easy to let the idea that you are behind keep you from finishing (or even getting started). Whether it's reading the book(s) on your nightstand, or sewing that pattern you've had at the ready for the last few months, or giving a relative a ring on the phone, or carving out some solo time to just relax - what will help you finish things is not discipline, it's self forgiveness.
As much as we'd love to, we just can't do it all. And that is okay. The sooner that we acknowledge it, the easier it is to wholeheartedly devote time and energy to the things that we can accomplish in this finite holiday season.
If you are looking for some respite (or just some kindred spirits, comforting words, and simple invigorating ideas) hop on to our Holiday Refresh. You can subscribe any time between now and January 4th, 2016. Although we're reluctant to add any more emails to your inbox, it's our hope that the brief weekly reflective exercises can bring some stability to an otherwise overwhelming stretch.
In celebration,
Taylor & Dorothy
