THE 'FOUNDING FATHERS' MISSED THE MARK . . .
The type of strength one can garner from 'independence' will never last. The only path forward mimics Mother Nature - a web of decentralized interdependence that breeds long lasting success with both beauty and bounty.
The media cycle - and the real-life events that inspire it - seem ever more manic. In the past two weeks we've seen the Supreme Court roll back decades of progress in areas well beyond bodily autonomy.
We've seen the stark disparity between the way police handled the Black body of Jayland Walker in a traffic stop vs. the White body of suspected mass shooter Bobby Crimo.
That mass shooting was one of 11 to happen across the country this past weekend alone.
What the world needs is for you to be neither helpless, nor a hero. We need citizens to stay informed and engaged - every day. And then support and uplift the people who are doing the interconnected work to thwart White Supremacy - the people organizing for reproductive justice, gun regulations, LGBTQIA2S+ rights, environmental justice, voting rights, and more.
In the wise words of Dr. Ayesha Kahn, 'Daily, consistent organizing & building community solidarity infrastructure has overthrown empires.'
We're right alongside you,
Tay + Dor
PS You may have noticed that we sent this out on Wednesday instead of our usual Tuesday deadline. We are humans and mothers, and while we appreciate our regular routine, we also extend grace to ourselves when we need more time to complete correspondence that is as meaningful to us as this weekly email. Thank you for your patience.

tidbits...
resources on anti-racism, environmentalism and food culture AKA stuff we're reading / listening to / watching / noticing / thinking about / captivated by this Tuesday . . .
This week's edition of Offshoot - A Growing Culture's Substack newsletter - does far more justice than we can to cover the history of regulating reproductive rights. Do yourself (and your country) a service and digest it the whole way through.
Get lost in the epic work of the Center for Plants and Culture. For a taste of their genius absorb their timely post about The Enslaved Africans Who Dyed America Blue.
Brittney Griner - a Black gay American female professional basketball player - has been wrongfully detained in Russia since February 17th. Nobody is free until everybody's free.
A reminder from @wokedoctors that 'Pride Month' is over, but we need you to show up for LGBTQIA2S+ people all year long (including tangible ways for you to do so).
When we yearn for some solace, we seek out music, and Mavis Staples never disappoints. If you need a moment to recharge, listen and learn about her legacy.
But if the new Beyoncé track is more your vibe, then read up on and pay homage to the roots of EDM, which has 'always been the sound of Black queer resistance'.

"We have to preserve our individuality, the Indigenous quality of our food because it is only then would people come to know about our culture and tradition." Read the latest GFJ Story on Axone, or Akhuni, a fermented soya bean paste that illuminates the politics of translating 'stinky' foods to unaccustomed palates.
