DO YOU EVER . . .
get lost in the constant state of more? Do you find yourself refreshing your screen / feed out of habit? Do you find yourself searching for something new or different automatically, without even considering what you really want or why you want it?
It can be exhausting.
And the irony we're all aware of, even peripherally, is: the antidote to more is usually less. This concept came up in the most beautiful way as I pored over Ruth Reichl's latest memoir, Save Me the Plums, about her years at the helm of Gourmet magazine. In her travels, Reichl meets a gentleman who reminds her that too much luxury takes away the joy of a luxurious thing. This random stranger reminded her (and us, through her writing) that it's when you strip things away - take time to rest, explore things that might seem old or uninteresting - the magic happens.
May you find pleasure, meaning, and magic in your days,
