LISTEN . . .
with the intent to understand. It sounds simple, but is easier said than done, especially when there is so much to be said, by so many people (ourselves included).
In fact, it's so easy to formulate our own opinions - ones that can easily cloud our ability to observe, absorb, or truly listen - that sometimes while another person is sharing their thoughts, you might even catch yourself thinking not about what they are saying, but about what you think about it, or what you might say next in response. Truly hearing what someone is saying can be an act of meditation, where you attempt to quiet your own thoughts so that another voice can come through. And how many of us aren't a little bit tired of the voices in our own heads, anyway?
This week will surely be ripe for listening practice with the impending elections drawing nearer by the day. We wish everyone productive discourse, whether related to politics or otherwise.
Cheers,
