THE DEPTHS OF SUMMER . . .
bring a lushness from nature that commands our attention. When we stop to think about it, we just can't understand how any of this, or any of us, exist. Late nights by the fire, and under the stars, give us pause from the madness of the world around us.
This year has been a challenging one, to say the least. There is so much turmoil, so much pain and suffering, so much confusion. It makes the necessary task of stopping, celebrating, healing, and connecting sometimes seem frivolous and imprudent. So we stop to remind ourselves that food - by nature - and the act of sharing it, is perhaps one of the best ways for us to all come together. In times marked by conflict and lack of understanding, any reason to gather, to share, to commune, is welcome and encouraged.
May you spend some time this summer surrounded by people with different viewpoints. Converse with them, and - even better - share a meal. Co-exist in a dignified way that protects the irrational magic of nature and life.
