NOTHING IS MORE EXHAUSTING THAN . . . the task that is never started.
If you are anything like us, the mental and emotional energy that you put into things that you intend to do often far exceeds the amount of effort it takes to actually do it. We've been trying to close the gap between intention and action. We find that we accomplish so much more that way.
So if you have been meaning to sign up for a chance to win a free ticket to the World Domination Summit, now is the time. It will take less than 2 minutes to do it, and save you 2 weeks of having it nag at you from your To Do list.
PSST, if you have no clue what we are talking about, read last week's newsletter.
And if you already have entered, but have been meaning to increase your chances of winning, now is the time.
Here are the stats. As of now,
- There are 1,138 individuals who have entered the competition, with entries from 40 different countries.
- 70% of all individuals who entered only gave their name and email, for a total of 1 entry per person (i.e. they did not share or get any referral entries). Low risk, but very low chance of reward.
- Our current frontrunner, Katelyn Mann, has 191 entries (because nearly 20 of the folks that she referred actually signed up to enter the contest, too). The next closest person has 101 entries. To clarify, this does not guarantee that these folks will win, but it does exponentially increase their odds.
What does this mean? You, too, still have a good chance of winning, if you put in just a small amount of elbow grease. If you convinced 100 people to sign up, you'd have nearly 1/3 of the total entries. 200 people and you'd have 2/3. I know what you are thinking, 'But guys, I don't know 20 people that want to sign up. I don't even know 1 person that wants to sign up. And I don't want to be that creepy or annoying person that spams everyone.'
We understand. We don't want you to be that person, either.
But we do want you to be the person that can take 10 minutes out of their day to learn something new, to meet someone new, or to share something meaningful. We do want you to be the person that doesn't let the fact that they don't have everything figured out yet keep them from trying to figure it out.
We hope that you'll use this as an opportunity to make new like-minded contacts. Here are a few ideas of how to make that happen:
- Go where like-minded people congregate. The World Domination Summit is not the only place where people who love Community, Adventure, and Service hang out. Go find groups that might be thematically linked to the event, and let them know about it (just be sure to use your referral link so that you'll get rewarded for your sharing efforts). For example, the folks that follow Marie Forleo or UnCollege might be very interested in this kind of event.
- Not sure where to begin? What student wouldn't love a free ticket to an awesome conference. Given the entrepreneurial nature of WDS, try to look for colleges, universities, and other institutions that might have clubs or program for subjects including entrepreneurship, social responsibility, and / or environmental studies. A quick Google search yielded many articles like this one that can lead you in the right direction.
- Use the information that is already available. Check out the list of previous WDS speakers. Chances are if you look up their websites you can see other places where they have spoken, and tap into the organizations that have hosted these other related events. Jonathan Fields, a WDS alum, posts frequent podcasts and videos with inspiring people on the Good Life Project. Each one of the folks that he interviews is making an impact, and will likely have upcoming talks or existing networks that you can tap into.
- You don't have thousands of followers on social media? There are two ways around this: 1) Tap into the network of someone who does, and/or 2) Create something that is so compelling that people want to share it. Even if you don't win the ticket you might do something far more valuable: grow your own sphere of influence. A quick search of the hashtag #WDS2014 on Instagram and Twitter yields thousands of results. Find a few posts that compel you and reach out to let people know how much you appreciate their work / insight / perspective.
- Find like-minded Facebook groups and spread the word to them in a targeted way. Not sure how? Here are some hints.
At the end of the day, we want you to use this as a tool to your advantage. There is no one right way to use it, and your creativity can shape it to suit your needs. The one thing we know for sure is that only two lucky recipients will win a ticket. But the possibilities for how you might use it as an opportunity to connect with like-minded people are endless. And when you find your people, you find yourself.
Enter your name and email for a chance to win. FYI we will never rent, sell, or otherwise share your contact information - or anyone else's. We just want to be able to contact you if you win.

We're hitting some milestones, and we want to share them with YOU, the people responsible for making them happen.
This past week we posted our 20,000th job, and we're just about to reach 10,000 Twitter followers (by the time you read this, we might have done so).
What do all of these numbers mean? On one hand, they seem somewhat abstract. While we don't love big numbers for the sake of big numbers, the reason why they are so meaningful is that every single time we meet a GFJ user in person, we instantly click. We can not believe that there are so many of you out there. We hope that over the years we meet each and every one of you - and even more than that, we hope that you all meet each other. Thanks for being a part of such a meaningful community.
If you're eager for a chance to meet some other like-minded folks right now, check out our contest page http://goodfoodjobs.com/wds
our job search engine is a work in progress. do you have a recommendation? constructive criticism? or have you noticed a glitch? let us know. we're improving every day.
