WE LOVE RITUALS ...
and reasons to celebrate. While a good portion of the country is likely focused on football, beer, and wings this week, one newsletter reader recently enlightened us about a holiday that really resonates with us: Tu B'Shvat.
This year, Tu B'Shvat begins at sunset tonight (Tuesday January 30th) and ends at nightfall on January 31st. The holiday has Jewish roots and usually falls on the full moon of a mid-winter month. It was used to signify the start of a new year - mostly so that growers could bring a tithe at the start of the 4th year for new trees.
But people used it as a way to celebrate the re-birth of the trees - this particular time of year was when the almond tree sap started to flow again. Meals included traditional fruits and nuts such as figs, pomegranates, olives, dates, and almonds - and involved drinking both white and red wine to signify the transition from winter to spring to summer. And more recently the holiday has signified a day of ecological awareness and been marked by planting new trees.
Personally we love anything that honors the land and the magic that it brings.
To rituals that connect and ground us all,

tidbits...
what we’re reading / listening to / watching / noticing / thinking about / captivated by this Tuesday…
Speaking of honoring the land and the magic that it brings, this newsletter is from one of our favorite local farms. Every time I read a letter from them it's like sitting down with an old, dear friend.
When we believe in what no one else can see, we find we are each other. – Mark Nepo
Keep an eye out for the Super Blue Blood Moon tomorrow morning (the relatively rare convergence of a super moon, blue moon, and lunar eclipse).
There is something undeniably relaxing about being phenotypically one of many (or most) rather than one of few (if any). Perhaps it would be a more stable world if everyone could experience both the sensation of oneness and that of otherness a few times in life. – Camille Dungy, The Conscientious Outsider
got a tidbit? drop it here for us, and you just might see it in next week's newsletter.
