CHANGE IS COMING.
And if you're in our neck of the woods, you can feel it in the air. Some of us (including yours truly) are rejoicing because fall is your favorite season. Others are bracing themselves for the too-soon approach of snow, ice, dark afternoons, and 'how cold did you say it was?!' temperatures.
These two groups of people - the autumn-friendly and the autumn-phobic, let's say - have something in common. No matter how excited you might be for the shifting seasons, for the feel of leaves crunching under your feet, the way red and orange and yellow trees look against the sky, that sweater you forgot that you loved so much, you might also feel a twinge of melancholy, trepidation, or (dare I say it) dread. It's the feeling that accompanies any great change in life. With a lot of happiness, excitement and rolling out the welcome mat comes a sprinkle of yearning for what was, a hint of panic that the past will pass us by.
Change is Hard Work
No matter how old you are, how seasoned, practiced, or prepared you might be, you're not alone in wondering why the best sweets have just a hint of bitterness. Change is hard work. Part of that work is accepting that yesterday is gone. Part of it is adapting to what comes tomorrow. And the last bit is stopping to take a breath, right now.
Cheers,
