Good Food Jobs is a gastro-job search tool, designed to link people looking for meaningful food work with the businesses that need their energy, enthusiasm, and intellect. We post opportunities with farmers and food artisans, policy makers and purveyors, retailers and restaurateurs, economists, ecologists, and more.
the gastrognomes is a blog for food lovers who want to put their passions to work. We profile the most interesting, engaging, and unlikely food professionals that we find, and we publish them here to inspire you.
NICE THINGS PEOPLE SAY
I'm not sure when or how I discovered GFJ, but I've loved looking at it as a barometer of emergence of artisanal, smart food and as inspiration for smart ideas--your site being the smartest.
- Lori, Newsletter Reader
It's always amazing to hear from a human being when I assume that an organization is so big that I could only get an automated response!
- Elena, Newsletter Reader
I've been a follower and subscriber of your mighty site and newsletter for quite a few months now. I admire the whole idea behind the site, and love every gastrognome story, but my favorite part are those [newsletter] intros. I have to say, I am actually looking forward to those 20 lines that you take the time to write each week. To me that is something that is so much more than simply loving good food. Those lines often resonate with my thoughts and troubles at a given time. Those lines always turn me around when I'm about to give up or get discouraged. [They] touch a deep note in my heart, making me see that I'm not alone with my doubts.

This newsletter is our last of 2012, and so not only do we reflect on the last week, but also on its context within the last year.
While we've been harried and bustling with the idea of holiday gift giving - often bombarded, both physically and electronically, with a plethora of advertisements for holiday sales or gift guides - we can't help but feel like the greatest gift we got this holiday season was correspondence from people that we respect and admire who told us they are thankful for our efforts. We in turn would like to thank each and every one of you who so kindly responded to last week's email. We're so thrilled to be a part of this community, and to be doing such great things together.
In a world where critiques seem to come far more frequently than compliments, we urge you this holiday season to find someone that you respect and admire, and tell them so. Write a letter, draft a quick note, or just tell them in person. We can guarantee it will be the greatest gift that they get all year.
In the new year, pay it forward. That's what we'll be doing.
*Note: In light of the Christmas holiday next Tuesday, we will not be sending out a newsletter. We apologize to those who don't happen to celebrate the same holiday as us, and we hope that you will excuse our absence, and enjoy whatever festivities this season may bring you. We'll see you in 2013.
Cheers,
Taylor & Dorothy

A YEAR IN REVIEW
Another year has come and gone, and what do we have to show for it? While we usually reserve this spot for quantitative analysis - like numbers of subscribers, jobs posted, and page hits - this time we'd like to focus on qualitative measures.
While we'd love to think that GFJ could single-handedly serve everyone's employment needs, we know that it's one tool, of many, that a job seeker or poster can employ (pun intended!). As such, GFJ is not just one thing (a job search engine) . . . it's a community that we can all use to make sustainable food for all a reality.
In the past year, we've made continual improvements to the site - some for pure functionality, others for building the network. Here are some of our favorites:
CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD
Yes, you can now change your password in the My Account section of the site without having to email us. Basic, we know, but sometimes the simplest things are the greatest triumphs.
JOB ALERTS
With an ever increasing number of jobs on the site it becomes harder to sift through the new opportunities every single day. To ensure that you don't miss one, save a search and get a daily email alert (note: you will only receive an email as often as a new job matches your criteria).
FOLLOW JOBS
Yep, we just snuck this one in there. Have you noticed it on the job posting pages? You can now 'Follow a Job', which allows you to have all of your favorite jobs in one place. Now you won't ever lose track of an opportunity that piques your interest.
PRINT AN INVOICE
While this is only relevant for job posters, we think it's nifty. As the end of the year approaches and you are tracking down all receipts for 2012, use this handy feature to keep track of all of your GFJ-related expenses.
THE 'WHY I CRIED' PROJECT
While this side project / blog is separate from the main site, it's integral to the soul of GFJ. We are all in this together. While it's great to share the successes, we also think we can learn from the hardships, and this little exercise proves the point.
GFJ LIVE CHAT
We're always thinking of ways to bring the GFJ community together. May we all benefit collectively from the questions each of us asks.
The adventure continues. We've got some ideas for what we'd like to implement in 2013, but should you have some requests, don't ever hesitate to let us know. And, as ever, if you find yourself bamboozled by any of the above features, don't hesitate to send us a note.

When we consider the benefits of shopping at farmers' markets, we immediately experience a flood of good things - the quiet, cold mornings when you make it to the market before anyone else does, the site of a season's first purple-y green asparagus tips or strawberries that shine like patent leather, the faces of vendors and shoppers that you recognize week after week. Believe it or not, it is actually Brittany's job (both as a student, advocate, and Programs Coordinator for Bowling Green's Community Farmers' Market) to teach others about these benefits, and so many more that come from eating fresh, local food.
