Good Food Jobs is a gastro-job search tool, designed to link people looking for meaningful food work with the businesses that need their energy, enthusiasm, and intellect. We post opportunities with farmers and food artisans, policy makers and purveyors, retailers and restaurateurs, economists, ecologists, and more.
the gastrognomes is a blog for food lovers who want to put their passions to work. We profile the most interesting, engaging, and unlikely food professionals that we find, and we publish them here to inspire you.

We find that the best ideas truly come when you least expect it. And while busy weeks tempt us to be a couch potato with the latest episide of Glee (did we just admit that?), it's the activities that free our minds (rather than take them over) that breed good thinking. Things like knitting hats for your loved ones, solitary transit time after meeting up with a friend, or making batches of holiday cookies both stimulate our brain and give it the freedom and flexibility to wander. In short, when we're lacking in inspiration we find that simply doing SOMETHING gets our creative (and productive) juices flowing.
When we ourselves were job searching, fresh out of college, our inclination was to stay holed up - to not have to see anyone, or say anything until we had something definitive to say (such as, 'Yes, I just landed this totally perfect job!'). Needless to say, such loner tendencies can not only put a damper on the holiday season, they can also hinder the very thing you're trying so hard to master: the job search.
When everything seems overwhelming - jobs, holidays, people, expectations - just breathe, and take it all in - one bite at a time. If you're feeling uninspired, check out a few of the cookbooks that we've written to Santa about:

Rebecca Thistlewaite
Farm Consultant & Freelance Writer
Sustain Consulting
If you haven't spent much time around farmers, you might have just a single, narrow image in your mind of exactly what a farmer is. Rebecca's job is to expand on that image by providing tools and resources for folks to improve their farming methods. In her new book Farms With A Future she tackles the subject by showing that successful farmers do so much more than grow vegetables or raise animals: they grow communities and raise the bar for a more sustainable landscape. So if you are itching to exercise your entrepreneurial spirit, and want to trade in paper cuts for dirt under your finger nails, Rebecca's book is a good place to start your journey. Read More
