Another year has passed and GFJ is celebrating our third Thanksgiving in operation. While we are skeptical of the storybook first Thanksgiving that we often learn about and celebrate in grade school - and recognize that there was likely far more pain and sacrifice than what's included in the version we all know so well - we do feel thankful for what Thanksgiving has come to mean to us.
We see the good in things, and we truly appreciate that this is an opportunity to come together with family and friends, for a meal that celebrates the harvest.
We hope that no matter what the history of the holiday - fighting over land ownership, strict Puritan religion - you can make use of this day that our goverment (and hopefully our bosses!) give us, by harvesting, making, and enjoying real food together.
We'll be picking the last of the brussel sprouts from our garden for the occassion, feasting on a turkey raised by someone that we know, and making apple pie sadly from not-totally-local apples (as it was a horrible harvest this past year up in northeastern Vermont - a reminder that food is connected to nature in a very meaningful way). This meal gives us the opportunity to reflect on our food, and how it comes to us - and gets us excited for next year: what we will grow, how we will spend our time, and what the harvest may bring.
Happy Thanksgiving to you.
Cheers,
Taylor & Dorothy

Creminelli Fine Meats
It's impossible not to like someone who can find a way to claim that cookies are a vegetable. But if meat is more your speed than sweets or plants, you'll still find something in common with Cristiano, who is so passionate about making salumi that he moved all the way to the U.S. from his native Italy to share his products with us. So while they might not celebrate Thanksgiving in Cristiano's home town, we can be thankful to include a Creminelli salami as part of our own holiday feast. Speaking of food culture and traditions, you might enjoy these videos that Cristiano made to help educate consumers about the culture of cured meats. Read More
