IT'S BEEN A GOOD WEEK FOR GOOD FOOD.
We can't help but feel inspired, and here are just a few reasons why:
NOD FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES
This week the NY Times published an article in the education section, recognizing the increasing demand for food studies programs in higher education. We have to say: it's about time.
TALKING ABOUT FOOD WRITING
With all the buzz about Amanda Hesser's article on Advice for Future Food Writers, we'd be surprised if you haven't seen it yet. It's spawned several rebuttals, but our favorite response comes from Carey Polis of the Huffington Post: What Amanda Hesser Got Right. Don't miss the quote from our very own Taylor.
THE GOOD FOOD JOBS SCHOLARSHIP
Congratulations to all 49 applicants of the Good Food Jobs Scholarship to Sterling College's Vermont's Table Program. We're poring over them now, narrowing down the top 3 applicants who will receive the coveted funds. But we'd like to take the time to note how inspiring the process is. We heard from women and men, college students, grad students, educators, entrepreneurs, farmers, food advocates, a cabinet maker, copy editors, an attorney, an oral historian, artists, parents, and food professionals galore. Each one of them has been unique and memorable.
A few years ago, we were hard pressed to find a quantity of people that truly understood our interest in food. Now we encounter them by the thousands. It means incredible things for the future of the (food) world, and we're delighted to be a part of it.
Cheers,
Taylor & Dorothy

THE GASTRO.GNOMES BLOG
Gene Baur
President
Farm Sanctuary
You never know when or where you will meet an inspiring food professional. In this case, it was at TEDxManhattan this past January. Gene and Taylor struck up a conversation, having both found themselves in awe of Stephen Ritz' riveting TED talk. Little did Taylor know, at the time, that Gene's work is equally impressive, and at the forefront of both animal advocacy and sustainable food. Which goes to show that humble leaders are hiding all over. Read More
Do you know someone worthy of food-related praise who is too humble to tout their own good work? Tell us about your hero, and maybe we can highlight their work right here on the gastrognomes. Share your thoughts in the comments section.
