Greetings from snow-covered VT,
On most mornings, when the car isn't covered in 3 feet of snow, I often get about 10 minutes to bask in the glory of VPR (Vermont Public Radio). It's a simple pleasure - and one that usually teaches me at least one thing a day - be it about global politics, local news, or the supremely helpful "Eye on the Sky" weather forecast.
But within the past few weeks they taught me a valuable lesson with their membership drive - you shouldn't be afraid to ask for help when you provide a worthwhile service.
So we're asking you for help. We don't need money, or even time, but we do need you to introduce us to others that feel the same way you do. We're building an incredible community of passionate professionals - of people who are looking for meaningful food work.
We have about 8,000 people signed up for our newsletter, but there have got to be hundreds of thousands of more folks out there, and we want to engage them in the conversation. There's incredible value in us all working together.
So what can you do, you ask? Any/all of the following:
-
Do you enjoy food with others? Send this email to at least 4 of your like-minded food-loving friends
-
Do you have a twitter account? Tweet out @goodfoodjobs and send your followers to http://goodfoodjobs.com
-
Do you have a Facebook account? "Like" us, and spread the word to your FB friends, too
-
Do you have a blog? Write a blog post about GFJ and link to the site
-
Are you a part of a network? Share GFJ with your food listserv, Google Group, in your newsletter, or any other way you keep connected
-
Do you write articles? Consider writing one about the rise of sustainable food/ag jobs. It's timely and will help gain support for not only GFJ, but for the entire movement
-
Do you have ideas? Send them to us. We're always happy to learn.
These things may seem obvious, but we've found that a gentle reminder - and a little help from our friends - is always fruitful for everyone. If we can return the favor in any way, don't hesitate to let us know.
Thanks in advance,
Taylor & Dorothy

Jess' networking skills brought her to us when she reached out to see if we could attend the upcoming Making Good Food Work conference in Detroit. If you didn't know there was buzz about sustainable agriculture in a city like Detroit, prepare to learn a lot more from Jess' eclectic history and we-couldn't-have-said-it-better advice. She is an example to anyone who has looked at their resume and wondered how to connect the dots, or is trying to decide where to start amid a jumble of different food-related opportunities. There are several morals to her story, but foremost is the principle that all experience can be valuable. Read more
