Company description
High Spirit Community Farm is a therapeutic work-life community for people with and without disabilities. Our philosophy is grounded in the belief that all people deserve the opportunity to participate in meaningful and dignifying work and life. Our goal is to empower residents and staff to pursue their interests, form friendships and experience a higher level of autonomy and independence than what is possible in traditional care models. We are a community of three homes surrounding a five-acre farm in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, a small, vibrant town in the Berkshires. Communal life here consists of shared meals and working side-by-side on the farm and in the home. High Spirit is rooted in relationships - with our residents, our coworkers, the larger community, and the earth. We are constantly growing and evolving as we seek to better understand and fulfill our role as an agent of social change within this non-traditional mode of care.
Job description
The Direct Support Provider is the backbone of High Spirit. Direct Support Providers develop genuine relationships with the residents they work with, supporting them to do what they love. A day at High Spirit could look like assisting a resident with turning the compost pile, accompanying them to the local pool (and challenging them in a swimming race!), reading books in a quiet corner of the library, or baking bread for the community! The programming we offer at High Spirit tends to be grounded in the fact that we are an intentional homesteading community, but it is ever-changing with the desires and interests of the residents we support. The Direct Support Provider will also assist residents with what we call ADLS (Activities of daily living) - which basically means supporting them to complete daily personal care tasks like showering and dressing.
