Farm Assistant job is an all-purpose job supporting the vegetable operation at Harvest Tide. The responsibilities are seasonal and vary daily depending on tasks at hand. The work is physical, requires close attention, and open communication and teamwork.
Work to include per season -
Spring: Seeding in greenhouse, transplanting, bed and fertilizer prep, field clean up, GH maintenance
Summer: Harvesting, transplanting, GH work, weeding, wash and pack of produce
Fall: Most of summer activities, large scale bulk harvest, winter prep, fall planting
Job Requirements:
- Employees must be on time, responsible and reliable.
- Must be capable of heavy physical work in all weather conditions, cold/heat/rain etc.
- Employees must be comfortable working at a quick pace, even while working alone
- 1-2 seasons working on a commercial farm strongly preferred, but we are willing to train hard-working folk with experience in manual labor
- Ability to follow schedules, read instructions, and do basic math.
- Ability to follow food safety and organic protocol with close attention all the time.
- Commitment to professional and constructive communication with co-workers, employers, and other staff
Employees are expected to be team players, and be comfortable taking direction from both Beth and Eric and from each other. Further, it is expected that workers approach this work with a learners mind and are comfortable accepting constructive criticism that improves the job being done. Employees are expected to be respectful and kind to one another. Employees are expected to have attention to detail and follow standards for product set by the farm, as well as participate in all record keeping tasks as needed.
Hours: 40-45 hours per week. 6:00 or 7:00 AM until 3:30 or 4:30 Pm Monday - Friday. Lunch is an unpaid ½ hour, and employees can expect a paid 15 minute break mid-morning.
Season: Late April/Mid-May - Late November (it is expected that all employees, unless otherwise determined complete the season)
Pay: Starting pay $11.00/hr. More with demonstrated farm experience. All employees receive a bonus at the end of the season, if they complete the season through scheduled time of November 27th. Employees who end employment early will not receive bonus.
Benefits: All full-time employees receive 2 paid days. We encourage you to save these for sick days as employees who arrive sick to work will not be permitted to work. Unpaid sick days also available. Vegetable seconds are included for free with pay. Discounts available for cheese, eggs, yogurt and other CSA Add-ons.
