One in five fruits and vegetables grown in America never make it off the farm due to tiny cosmetic defects that do not effect quality. Imperfect is on a mission to find a home for these misshapen fruits and veggies in people’s fridges by selling them for a 30-50% discount with a lovable, hip brand.

We offer the cheapest and most environmentally friendly produce option, starting with our weekly produce delivery service in Oakland and Berkeley. In addition to building a scalable solution to fight food waste, our business model also generates extra revenue to California
farmers.

We have put together a team of the leading food waste entrepreneurs in the country and are working with a world-class advisors, including Doug Rauch, former President of Trader Joe’s. 

Job description

We need your help to show the world the true beauty of ugly produce. The Go-to-Market Ninja is a sales management role focused around driving the growth of our business. We currently have 4 members of our Outreach Team who are experimenting with a variety of sales channels in the Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville community. This includes both B2B and B2C sales tactics including events, canvassing and selling through offices, schools, apartment buildings and housing co-ops. The Go-to-Market Ninja will jump into a management role to support the existing Outreach Team and experiment with various approaches in order to streamline the sales process and increase sales. The overarching goal is to develop proven and replicable channels with low customer acquisition cost over the course of three months.  This position will be a salaried employee with a built in evaluation after 3 months. The expectation is that the Ninja will be able to optimize the performance of our Outreach Team during this initial 3 month period. Benefits will start in the fourth month and are contingent on meeting goals in the first few months. 

Responsibilities
  • Manage Imperfect’s Outreach Team of 4 full-time staff and work alongside them as they test out various B2B and B2C sales channels such as offices, schools, housing co-ops and apartments, events, canvassing and door-knocking
  • Oversee our Outreach Team Members demoing our produce, passing out free samples, and engaging people in public areas like parks, public squares, farmers markets and popular streets
  • Oversee and support our Outreach Team Members to successfully identify and establish win-win partnerships for affiliated promotions with yoga studios, daycare centers, gyms, etc.
  • Support each of the Outreach Team members, set goals and evaluate the performance of each team member and of the various different sales channels
  • Determine which sales channels are working, which are not and which need more development and iteration
  • Provide workshops, trainings and coaching to Outreach Team members to build their sales skillsets
  • Develop creative and innovative approaches to any challenges that arise in the sales process
  • Optimize and expand the most promising sales channels. This will include developing toolkits and resources for each channel, including compelling talking points, SOPs and best practices to achieve the best possible conversion rates for lead generation and across the various stages of the sales cycle.
  • Take ownership of the overall Outreach Team weekly sales goals, developing and implementing a plan to increase total sales over the first 12 weeks
  • Possibly devise and implement new referral campaigns
  • Develop new strategies to get Imperfect onto community and neighborhood listservs
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
 About You
  • 1-3 years experience in sales management
  • Experienced in a wide variety of the B2B and B2C sales channels that Imperfect is using
  • Very comfortable tracking metrics to assess the effectiveness of different channels
  • Strong management skills – able to inspire and motivate a team to achieve sustained high performance and morale
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Energetic and excited about Imperfect
  • Able to persuasively articulate benefits of Imperfect’s products to customers
  • Highly organized and impeccable attention to detail
  • Personable and comfortable speaking to strangers
  • Must have a car (with functioning A/C) and a valid driver’s license
  • Self-motivated and self-starter
  • Ability to set, own and meet aggressive sales targets
  • Ability to work well in a team-focused environment
  • Working knowledge of Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville neighborhoods
Details of position

This position reports directly to the CEO. It is a full-time, best-efforts basis. We generally work 40 hrs/week but some overtime work may be required.  Monday through Friday 9am-5pm is our default although some evening and weekend work will be required for various community engagements. Looking to fill position as soon as possible.  Compensation is commensurate with experience.  Position is based out of Emeryville warehouse, but 50% of time is spent out in the community doing outreach.  Compensation this position is : salaried How to apply
