Job Description Fast growing, dynamic non-profit that connects military veterans to careers in agriculture is looking for a Chief Operations Officer.

The position will work from our Davis, CA office and is scheduled to start on January 1, 2016. Salary and benefits will be competitive. Assistance with moving will be provided to the right candidate.

Summary of Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC):

Established in 2009, The Farmer Veteran Coalition is a national non-profit organization that assists veterans in making the transition from the battlefield to the farm field.

FVC’s vision is to mobilize veterans to feed America.

FVC’s mission of cultivating a new generation of farmers and agricultural leaders is achieved by: supporting and providing education and training that develops viable employment and meaningful careers in agriculture, facilitating the collaboration of farming and military communities, and serving veterans through specific programs and services that increase their skills, knowledge, and capacity to develop or enhance their agricultural operations.

Summary of Position:

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Chief Operations Officer (COO) provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the organization has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization as well as ensures the financial strength and maintains that the non-profit operates efficiency. The COO will lead all internal operations through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the mission of the organization.

Essential Functions

• Working in partnership with the ED, create the strategic five-year plan and implement new processes and approaches to achieve it

• Serve as the internal leader of the organization:
  o Coordinate the annual operations plan and budget
  o Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization
  o Provide for all staff a strong day-to-day leadership presence; bridge national and regional operations and support an open-door policy among all staff

• Provide management for all of the various areas throughout the organization, whose responsibilities are as follows:
  o Development 
   -Raise local funds
   -Build local fund raising and sales infrastructures within  local offices
   -Generate sufficient local revenue to cover local costs
   -Increase fee-for-service contracts
   -Identify geographic growth opportunities and priorities
   -Communicate the branded message internally and  externally
   -Administrative aspects including proposal preparation and grant writing
  o Programs
   -Increase key impact measurements for FVC programs-Homegrown by Heroes, Fellowship Fund
   -Oversee the development in curriculum, tools, and training that meet cost guidelines
  o Finance, Technology, and Human Resources
   -Cultivate the values of FVC within the organization
   -Instill a human capital development and “coaching” culture within FVC; upgrade human resources functions including: training, development, compensation and benefits, employee relations, performance evaluation and recruiting
   -Develop an accounting system that provides the organization with quick access to financial information and enables strategic budgeting
   -Analyze the current technology infrastructure and scope out the next level of information technology and financial systems that support the growth of specific programs and the organization overall
   -Budgeting
   -Development and implementation of systems for reporting, measurement and supporting local revenue generation
   -Administrative aspects including proposal preparation and grant writing

• Work with the national board of directors: Assist the ED in presenting to the board at quarterly meetings

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be
expected.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
• At least five years of strong operational experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Master’s degree in business or related field.
• Military and/or farming background highly desired
