Job Description Artisan cheese retailer Lucy's Whey seeks CHEESE ROCK STARS for our Upper East Side location!  If you fantasize about eating cheese all day (we do!), join us!

Our location in the Upper East Side features a wide selection of American and European artisanal cheeses and accompaniments, as well as a restaurant. Here you’ll have access not only to fabulous cheese and accompaniments, but also a stunning wine and craft beer selection, coffee by Counter Culture Coffee, and seasonal small plates from our chef.

Responsibilities include:

Sales:
  • Providing cut-to-order artisanal cheese and charcuterie service to retail customers
  • Possessing a thorough and growing knowledge of artisan cheese
  • Possessing general knowledge of specialty foods -- including (but not limited to) dairy, bread, beer, nuts, condiments and chocolates -- and the ability to communicate said knowledge effectively to customers
  • Fostering and enhancing relationships with new and existing customers through superb customer service
  • Effective use of the point of sale system including management of the cash drawer and accurate sales reports
Food Handling:
  • Basic knife skills and safe and proper use of an electric slicer
  • Upholding the highest health and sanitation standards, above and beyond those outlined by the NYC Department of Health
Competencies:
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, and detail-oriented
  • A passion for giving great customer service
  • A working knowledge of (or strong interest to learn about) artisan cheese and foods
  • Basic knowledge of food and cooking
  • Ability to think quickly and problem solve
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, peers and management
Requirements:
  • Love of cheese! Flexible scheduling and availability (evenings, weekends, and holidays essential).
