Job Description The herds-person is responsible for the daily execution of the tasks assigned by the farm manager and making sure that farm staff is up-to-date on the current SOPs for day-to-day tasks. Typical tasks include (but are not limited to):

-milking cows
-setting up and tearing down temporary fence
-feeding pigs and chickens
-general farm maintenance
-moving the herd of dry cows

The position is salaried at an amount that is commensurate with the experience of the applicant. There is housing available on farm. The herds-person is expected to work 5 days a week. Days are typically 8-12 hours (usually around 9). However, there will be times when they will be asked to work an extra day (rarely two) and/or work a longer day than is typical.

Applicants should have the desire to operate their own farm someday. They should be hard-workers, extremely reliable and easy to communicate with. Having experience with grass-fed animal management and/or cattle in particular is a plus. Any experience with tractor operation would also be beneficial.
