Job Description Store Development Manager

Our Store Development team designs, builds and maintains cafes in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City and Tokyo. Our team strives to build cafes with as much care, craft and attention to detail as our roasters and baristas put into every cup of coffee we serve. This position will be based in Oakland, CA and report to Blue Bottle’s Director of New Store Openings.

You will:
  • Work with design team to ensure thorough specifications that can be executed on budget and with precision
  • Manage general contractor and fixture bid process, as well as budget and development schedules
  • Develop strategies to improve construction cycle costs, timing, precision and communication
  • Procure building, health and other permits and develop relationships and strategies with regulatory departments to balance design intent with building and health code requirements
  • Oversee construction to manage quality, design intent, costs and schedule
  • Smoothly hand off each new facility to operational teams and help ensure successful openings
  • Communicate project status and priorities with written/oral executive summaries and detailed reports
  • Help negotiate leases and do due diligence on potential new locations

  • Able to travel 30-50% of time to visit and monitor in-process construction sites
You have:
  • Bachelors degree and/or graduate degree in architecture, engineering, design, or other relevant fields
  • 5+ years construction management experience including hiring and managing general contractors
  • 5+ years of complex project management experiences involving numerous vendors and stakeholders
  • 2+ years experience leading construction and development of cafes or restaurants
  • Deep knowledge of interior finishes including sourcing materials, furniture, and fixtures
  • Last but not least, a deep love for great coffee, food, and exceptional customer experiences
