Job Description About Us:

Seacoast Eat Local was founded in 2006 with the mission to connect people with sources of locally grown foods and advocate eating locally for the health of our environment, community, culture and economy. Through advocacy, organizing and education, we work toward a sustainable local food system that meets the needs of both producers and consumers. Our work includes operating a SNAP/EBT Farmers’ Market Program, organizing winter farmers’ markets, producing a local food guide, Seacoast Harvest, sponsoring workshops and events, and providing information through our email newsletter, blog and website,www.seacoasteatlocal.org

Position Description:

The Director of Programs is responsible for the operational success of Seacoast Eat Local ensuring seamless program delivery and fiscal accountability.  In this newly established role, the Director of Programs will be the key external face of Seacoast Eat Local in the community. This position reports to the Board of Directors. 

Responsibilities:

Program Leadership and Execution
  • Ensure successful execution of SEL’s core programs, Winter Farmers’ Market, SNAP Program, and Seacoast Harvest, and future initiatives that are developed
  • Evaluate the results of these key initiatives and help determine best courses of action to evolve and grow the programs
  • Determine budget needs and assess financial requirements and results for the core programs, in conjunction with the Board of Directors
 Staff Planning and Oversight
  • Establish plan, recruit, train and oversee paid staff, interns and volunteers to ensure adequate and qualified team members to carry out the program activities
  • Direct, plan and manage the work of the Program Coordinator
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and evaluation of Program Coordinator, including a plan for professional development
 Fundraising
  • Develop and execute Seacoast Eat Local’s annual fundraising plan in conjunction with the Board of Directors
  • Lead fundraising efforts to deliver financial goals of the organization, including writing grants, developing public appeals, coordinating and overseeing fundraising events, and soliciting sponsorships
  • Work with the Board of Directors to expand development opportunities for Seacoast Eat Local
  • Maintain responsibility for the donor management database
 Documentation and Reporting
  • Assemble and report results of the key programs and special events identifying opportunities for growth and improvement
  • Establish consistent, objective program performance evaluation standards and/or metrics
  • Analyze trends in the programs, identify issues and develop and recommend solutions to further the mission of the organization
  • Ensure program results and supporting documentation for funders are prepared in accordance with funding requirements/requests
 Marketing
  • Oversee the development and execution of Seacoast Eat Local’s marketing plans, as approved by Board of Directors
  • Coordinate marketing and outreach efforts to expand participation in key programs to achieve Seacoast Eat Local’s strategic plan goals
  • Network, facilitate and support events to extend the work and mission of Seacoast Eat Local
 Committee Oversight
  • Establish, recruit, and lead committees to assist in the planning and execution of operational work
  • Engage committee members in decision-making and communication of projects and events
 Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent, relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 4 – 5 years experience in project management in a nonprofit environment preferred
  • Proven experience in fundraising, grant writing and event management resulting in measurable successes and consistent growth
  • Proficiency in using technology as a reporting tool; strong proficiency in general computer and device use
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning and using new technology and software programs
  • Strong project management skills managing multi-faceted programs
  • Proven results mobilizing, inspiring and coaching paid and volunteer staff that delivers expected outcomes
  • Ability to solve problems and manage conflict to ensure strong collaborative program execution
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to create content for a variety of needs and audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work without close supervision, creating and executing a solid work plan for her/himself and for staff
  • Ability to establish strong partnerships and build collaborative efforts across a wide range of community members
  • Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends
  • Hands-on work ethic and enthusiasm to be in front of the public at events and markets
  • Personal qualities and a communication style that reflects professionalism, integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for the mission of Seacoast Eat Local
