Job Description About Us:

We are an animal sanctuary in Northern NJ dedicated to helping, housing and rehabilitating factory farmed animals.  We wish to educate people about the many dangers of factory farming.  We also sell a line of artisanal food products like sauces to raise money and awareness for our farm.

The Internships:

Below are descriptions of the three internships available at Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary.  They are three month internships and the start date is March 2, 2015.

Farm Internship:

We are looking for a full time live in Farm Intern. You should be a motivated, creative person. You will be living in a group environment and should be able to get along well with others.  Previous experience in animal welfare and general farm work is not required but helpful.  Also you should have an understanding that farm work while physically challenging, is also very rewarding. Your tasks would be to work with both our animals and in our gardens. The intern will be exposed to all functions of the farm and our practices. We are looking for a motivated, creative person with a passion for animals and farming.

Skills Desired:
  • Ability to trouble-shoot problems and take necessary steps to remedy them.
  • Independently motivated. Experience working without regular oversight.
  • Ability to work and communicate as part of a team.
  • Able to accept constructive criticism and confidence in expressing ideas.
  • Ability to oversee animal welfare.
  • Excellent observation skills and ability to take necessary resulting actions.
  • Detail oriented and dedicated to high-quality, thoughtful work.
  • Positive attitude and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Clean, tidy approach to management activities.
  • Willingness and comfort in asking for help when necessary.
  • Able to operate heavy machinery.
  • Safety-conscious
  • Current U.S. drivers license.
Duties:
  • Implement all farm management activities, including but not limited to barn and     coop management, harvesting, planting and other related activities. 
  • Strictly adhere to organic and biological management principles.
  • Engage in other general farm management activities, such as weed control, mulching, composting, etc.
  • Maintain farm in a tidy, orderly manner.
  • Maintain plot, plantings, rotations etc. on a data base.
  • Maintain active and clear communication with farm managers and volunteer workers.
  • Maintain clear records of farm management activities, general farm management, equipment maintenance, weather, and purchases.
  • Maintain a monthly blog documenting your experience on the Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary site.
  • Help out at our local Farmers Market.  
Social Media Internship:

We are looking for an intern to help us build relationships with the general public and targeted groups through social media, fundraising and various projects. The intern will be exposed to all functions of the farm and our practices. We are looking for a motivated, creative person with experience in social media and farm animal rescue that has fresh ideas and is excited to help us educate the world about Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary.

Skills Required:
  • Must be proficient in Dropbox, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Youtube, Google+, Outlook, Office, PC and Mac.
  • General knowledge of Squarespace and Photoshop.
  • Ability to create long and short form copy that makes an impact on various social media platforms.
  • Must be confident and comfortable working in a public setting.
  • Detail oriented and dedicated to high-quality, organized thoughtful work.
  • Willingness and comfort in asking for help when necessary.
  • Able to accept constructive criticism and confidence in expressing ideas.
  • Must own smart or i phone and standard format computer (desktop/laptop/notebook/pad).
Duties:·
  • Convey our mission in a meaningful and articulate way.
  • Maintain and update our website.
  • Planning, executing and tracking social media campaigns.
  • Maintaining email capture.
  • Maintain and Communicate with our volunteer list
  • Writing and executing email blasts and bi-monthly newsletter to subscribers.
  • Creating and maintaining spreadsheets.
  • Maintain a monthly blog documenting your experience on the Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary site. 
Non-profit Sales and Marketing Intern:

We are looking for an energetic and passionate intern to help us build relationships with the general public and targeted groups related to animal charities and non-profits.  The non-profit sales and marketing intern will support Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary’s mission of rescuing, housing and caring for abandoned, abused and neglected factory farmed animals by building community networks, participating in outreach events, researching new sources of funding, soliciting in-kind donations, and supporting organizational events.

Skills Desired:
  • Ability to trouble-shoot problems and take necessary steps to remedy them.
  • Independently motivated. Experience working without regular oversight.
  • Ability to work and communicate as part of a team.
  • Previous professional volunteer or classroom experience with non-profits.
  • Detail oriented and dedicated to high-quality, thoughtful work.
  • Positive attitude and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Clean, tidy approach to management activities.
  • Able to accept constructive criticism and confidence in expressing ideas.
  • Willingness and comfort in asking for help when necessary.
Duties:
  • Research new sources of funding that align with the Tamerlaine Animal Farm   Sanctuary mission.
  • Convey our mission in a meaningful and articulate way.
  • Represent Tamerlaine Animal Farm Sanctuary at outreach, community events, markets and any other venues that will promote and benefit our cause.
  • Develop and maintain marketing and outreach materials.
  • Assist in fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Soliciting donations of money, products and volunteers time.
  • Sourcing potential avenues in which to receive grant money.
