Job Description Urban Gleaners’ is a local non-profit that was founded in 2006. Our mission is to help alleviate hunger by collecting edible surplus food from grocery stores, farmers markets, farms, event sites, and restaurants that would otherwise be thrown away. We redistribute this food to agencies that feed the hungry and to children and their families through our Food to Schools program.  Urban Gleaners is a small scale, hands-on organization with a collaborative team environment. We are seeking a new director of operations. This position requires a person who is flexible,energetic, willing to get dirty, work with many diverse populations,  and able to lift at least 40pounds. Additionally, this person should be equally at home in the warehouse processing food, driving the van, or working at a desk.  

Urban Gleaners seeks an operations director who can: 

Coordinate a team of three that includes two drivers and a program coordinator.This includes managing weekly food donation pick-up and delivery schedules, tracking the flow of food through our distribution center, working with volunteers, overseeing the Food to Schools program and SUN pantries. 

Oversee the master schedule.  This includes:  coordination with food donors, last minute pick-ups and one-time events (must have valid Oregon drivers license), community events, and occasional fundraisers.  

Maintain community outreach:
  • Solicit new food donors
  • Work with local government and non-profit entities
  • Interface with school administrators and pantry staff
  • Be available for speaking engagements

Manage organizational website. Working knowledge of WordPress.  Maintain on-line presence through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the Urban Gleaners web blog, including hard copybrochures, newsletters, and mailers. Required is a working knowledge of Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office. 

Process payroll 

Requirements: 

  • At least 3 years experience in a social service non-profit.
  • BA from an accredited college or university or the equivalent.
