POSITION SUMMARY:
Civic Works, Inc. seeks a creative, independent individual to lead and develop the operation of Civic Works’ food access and farm initiatives.  This new position will support and expand programs that are working to promote urban agriculture, improve neighborhood access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and provide job training for individuals in food and farm jobs. A heavy emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s ability to coordinate multiple programs within Civic Works. This position will be expected to lead all strategic planning, fundraising, and budgeting efforts for food and farm-related programming. The candidate is expected to work well with community groups and Maryland-based non-profits focused on urban agriculture.  The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week and receive salary plus benefits including short and long-term disability, life insurance, supported health care, vision, dental and a 401k with a company match.  While based out of Clifton Park, the selected candidate will be required to travel to the partner organizations often and is expected to have his/her own vehicle for which mileage will be reimbursed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate, supervise, and manage the staff of the food and farm-related initiatives at Civic Works currently including Real Food Farm, Little Gunpowder Farm, Farm Alliance, Baltimore Orchard Project, Food Forest and related activities
  • Actively seek out and apply for funding for food and farm initiatives and manage grants with Fund Development Director
  • Ensure that data and outcomes are being properly tracked, reported and analyzed for internal planning and grant reports
  • Manage and track budgeting for all related programs
  • Attend program-related events and activities to inform staff and program evaluations
  • Attend program advisory board meetings or partnership meetings when relevant
  • Lead hiring process for new food and farm program staff
  • Assist with Civic Works-wide events and coordinate with programs not directly related to food and farm
  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
  • Bachelor’s degree or significant work experience in a field related to agriculture, public health, or urban planning preferred; a Master’s degree in these fields is a plus
  • Minimum four years work experience in food justice, non-profit and/or agriculture field
  • Volunteer experience and/or AmeriCorps service a plus
  • Background in food and/or farm policy issues
  • Project management experience - specifically fundraising, budget management, staff supervision, and program evaluation
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
  • Driver’s license (a driving record will be requested as well)
  • A drug test and a criminal background check will be required
  • Strong interpersonal, public speaking, time management, communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Passion for service and a background in volunteering
  • Demonstrated ability for creative problem solving
  • Proficient in Google Drive, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Publisher, Adobe programs, and database entry
