Job Description The Squire Tarbox Inn is an historic inn that sits on 11 acres on an island in Midcoast Maine, much of which, can, has or does produce local food.  The inn hosts a 35+/- person restaurant that hosts both the general public and inn guests as diners.  In the past three years great efforts have been made to cultivate unique and exciting foods that can be prepared and served in the restaurant or breakfasts.

Unique specimens like vitex, serviceberry, honey bushes, elderberries, and more have been planted for long term perennial production.  The vegetable gardens produce almost all the vegetable needs for the restaurant, and with some focused energy could produce everything needed!  The gardens abound with culinary medicinals such as borage, calendula, mints, bee balm, nasturtiums, basils, wild oregano and many more herbs, including those to be used in bartending applications such as bitters.  There are mushroom logs established, and plentiful wild mushrooms to be had including maitake, black trumpets, boletus, lobsters and chantrelles to begin with.

There are also many other wild foods such as wild Maine blueberries and blackberries.  Currently the inn houses about 30 chickens and has room for more chickens, as well as turkeys, ducks, meat chickens and more....  Pigs have been successfully raised on the property, and the previous owners had a robust goat cheese business, so all the infrastructure is in place to raise, milk and produce goat cheese.  Food garden beds surround the property, allowing guests to really connect with their food on many levels.  There is an outdoor, handmade earthen oven that is host to Monday night pizzas, but could be used in a much more extensive role.

The kitchen is large and there is a root cellar in place as well.  There is an enormous barn that used to harbor the plough horse and donkey, and also has living quarters for staff.  Business is owned by my parents and they want to retire!  You are a good fit for the business if you love food, have some business experience, are a good marketer, and have experience in the food/hospitality industry, with some culinary goals.  Restaurant can take on many roles... Inn has potential as a "healing sanctuary", nutrition education center or much more!!

Currently, the inn is closed from January 1st to mid-April, as is the restaurant.  In the high season, the restaurant is open 6 days per week, in the off season April 15th to memorial day, and October 20th to Jan 1st), it is open Th, Fri, & Sat.  Much flexibility with open dates...previous owners were only open Memeorial day to Columbus day.  On the job training available, and current owners live on the island for consulting, if desired.  Potential for creative agreements possible, for the right candidate, including managerial position/lease to own... Serious calls only!! Compensation this position is How to apply
