Job Description The University of Minnesota Extension is a major outreach arm of the University of Minnesota, a land grant institution with a mission to serve the public through applied research and education. The mission of the University of Minnesota Extension is: Making a difference by connecting community needs and University resources to address critical issues in Minnesota. Extension educational programs are organized and delivered through four structural units designated as Extension Centers, each lead by an Associate Dean. These Extension Centers include: Family Development, Youth Development; Community Vitality; Food, Agriculture, Natural Resource Sciences. 

Duties
  • Coordinate and oversee implementation the EFNEP program in Hennepin, Ramsey and southern Anoka counties, including the development of internal systems and processes to improve program delivery and organizational effectiveness.
  • Strengthen relationships with existing partners and develop a process for recruiting and retaining new community partners that serve the ENFEP population.
  • Lead thorough, ongoing needs assessment of the communities in the 3-county region including identification of environmental- and systems-level influences and researching organizational and governmental policy influences on health-related behaviors and choices.
  • Develop and implement external communication plans related to EFNEP, utilizing multiple media and effective, tailored messaging.
  • Prepare and support Community Nutrition Educators and their supervisors to deliver educational programs, following the EFNEP guidelines to ensure program fidelity and success.
  • Supervise and coach two Program Coordinators, each of whom directly supervises 6 to 8 Community Nutrition Educators
  • Develop a system to provide ongoing staff development and training for two coordinators and the 12 to 18 CNEs on University and departmental policies, curricula, delivery methods, hands-on activities, program reporting, and evaluation. ? Ensure program records and reports are submitted in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner to the state office.
  • Collaborate with other Extension personnel to enhance program delivery through coordination and sharing of resources, formative research and program evaluation.

  • Work with new and diverse audiences historically underserved by Extension to develop place-based, relevant programs
  • Design, implement and evaluate educational programs based on scholarly and scientific theory and research and appropriate to the audience, with attention to cultural diversity.
  • Develop a continuum of coordinated program offerings and initiatives to address health and nutrition issues effectively in the community utilizing the spectrum of prevention for greatest impact.
  • Use technology for communicating, locating information, designing and delivering programs, and reporting.
  • Ensure diversity among clientele and learners and equal access to programs and facilities without regard to age, race, creed, color, handicap, sex, sexual orientation, developmental disability, national origin, marital status, arrest or non-program related conviction record. 

  • Use engaged models to conduct and contribute to scholarly, scientific research in Health and Nutrition.
  • Conduct, and possibly lead, applied research and educational programs, and participate in research project teams led by faculty.
  • Garner funds and resources to support educational programs through grants and other means.
  • Make and document contributions to the six criteria for promotion in Extension academic rank, program leadership, extension teaching, scholarship, engagement, program management and service.
  • Participate and succeed in progress regarding your professional performance including the systems of annual performance review, professional plan of work and promotion.
  • Participate in community-engaged work to address social, economic, and environmental health and nutrition issues.
  • Develop and participate in professional and community networks for collaborative programming and collective impacts.
  • Foster and contribute to a positive work climate with colleagues, advisory groups, audiences and partnerships.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Master's degree in nutrition or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with program management in a health and/or nutrition education program
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of innovative community engagement methods and educational programming for nutrition or physical activity promotion through public health approaches and behavior focused nutrition education with individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and work effectively with diverse, underserved audiences with limited resources.
  • Demonstrated strong skills in managing multiple, long-term projects and partnerships for optimal efficiency and performance.
  • Experience with and strong skills related to partnership building and collaborations.
  • Expertise and experience in educational program development, delivery, evaluation, and using scholarly research, including implementing and managing community-based health and/or nutrition projects that involve multiple community partners and stakeholders.
  • Basic qualitative and quantitative research skills.
  • Experience in development of outreach strategies and marketing tools to reach a variety of audiences.
  • The ability and commitment to foster a healthy workplace environment that seeks and values diversity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of using technology for teaching, communication, information-gathering, program delivery, and/or reporting.
  • Proficiency in computer skills in a networked environment.
