The Grey Barn and Farm is a 100 acre certified organic 100% grass-fed dairy and farm located on Martha’s Vineyard. We are committed to sustainability for the land and our community and hope that any individual applying for this position has the same aspirations.
We are offering an opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to fill a full time role in our creamery. This person would assist the cheesemakers in all tasks including cheese production, packaging, affinage and cleaning.
This is NOT AN INTERNSHIP. This is a paid full time position where you are expected to learn at an adequate pace, take responsibility for your work and often work on your own. This is an excellent opportunity for hands on learning with space to grow. We aren’t looking for someone with experience but we seek someone with a real love for cheese. We like self-motivated, organized, and upbeat people. Culinary experience is a plus.
If this were a kitchen job ad, the position would read PREP COOK. Like prep in the kitchen, the creamery assistant acts as the backbone to the cheesemaking operation. Cheesemaking is at least 75% cleaning and many of the other tasks, such as affinage, require patience and attention to detail. This is a great job for someone who enjoys finding a rhythm in repetitive work and contributing to the bigger picture in the process of his education.
